Social Work Specialist

The role

The Social Work Specialist is a key member of the Family Care First Cambodia (FCF)|REACT team. The post holder will provide technical support, with a primary focus on social work, for Save the Children team, consortium partners and other key stakeholders in the FCF|REACT initiative in Cambodia. The post holder will also build technical capacity for the implementation of FCF|REACT projects to ensure achievement of planned outcomes, and support in developing initiatives, proposals, interventions, documentation and research related to family care and alternative care programmes in Cambodia.

The purpose of this position is to contribute to strengthening the quality of social work and other protection programs and projects implemented by Save the Children and its partners, and ensure consistent practices and systems for all children to be in safe, nurturing family based care. The post holder will also contribute to reinforcing national child protection policies and frameworks.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

• At least Bachelor Degree in Social Work/Social Sciences or any relevant field.

• Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in technical aspects of Child Protection.
• Experience of building technical capacity at non-governmental and governmental levels.
• A sound understanding of child protection, family care and alternative care and other key technical areas of child protection programming.
• A good understanding of the CP sector in Cambodia, including the work of NGO’s, government and UN agencies.
• Strong ability to build positive, influential relationships to achieve desired outcomes.
• Ability to analyse information, evaluate options, and provide recommendations.
• Ability to provide training, coaching and mentoring to a wide audience in support of their development.
• Proven experience facilitating groups from diverse perspectives to achieve outcomes.
• Strong ability to effectively, and positively, represent organisation/project.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

• Technical document writing skills, in both Khmer and English.
• Problem solving skills, with a proactive and professional approach.
• Willingness and ability to change work practices and hours, to be flexible and responsive in the event of emergencies.
• Ability and willingness to travel.
• Commitment to Save the Children values and willingness to abide by SCI’s Child Safe Guarding/Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.

Desireable

• Previous experience of working with a multi-cultural team and adaptability to team dynamics.

Contract length: Unspecified Duration Contract (UDC)
