Our Member - Hagar

Hagar International

Hagar International is an international organisation, dedicated to the recovery of women and children who have endured extreme abuse.

Mission

Communities free and healed from the trauma of human trafficking, slavery, and abuse.

Vision

For those affected by trauma and those who support them, Hagar is an expert in care and recovery.

When healing happens, the cycle of trauma stops.

What Hagar is Doing

The Whole Journey

At Hagar we are committed to the whole journey. The whole journey starts with a survivor, an individual who has experienced severe trauma as a result of slavery, trafficking or abuse. From the moment that individual enters our care, we work with them to assess what their needs are and offer a full range of intensive and individualised services. We rebuild trust and resilience.

Protect

We ensure a safe environment, including legal support for our clients, staff and caregivers. We use a trauma-informed care approach to ensure the communities, in which our clients heal and our staff operate, in are safe and supportive.

Heal

We empower individuals to recover from the impact of trauma. We train counsellors using methods that are aligned with international best practices, and informed by partnerships with leading research universities like Johns Hopkins and Harvard.

Thrive

We ensure that all those we work with have access to education and economic empowerment services. We create opportunities for our clients through our Community Learning Centre, placements in local schools, employability training, on the job training, and securing scholarships for university.

Lead

We amplify the voices and experiences of those we serve to bring about the systemic changes needed to combat human trafficking, slavery & abuse. We partner with governments in all of our operational countries to ensure that change takes place in a systemic, sustainable way.

Action with Family Care First (FCF) | REACT

Hagar had collaborated with First Step Cambodia on development of the first set of national Standards for Social Work Practice and training from October 2016 to August 2018. The six standards are now being finalized by Family Care First and approved by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation.

Hagar is currently providing services to children and families.  The current FCF | REACT action enables Hagar to learn, grow, and prepare for continued scaling of existing case management and specialized services, in and around Phnom Penh as well as Kandal, Battambang and Siem Reap. Hagar commits to strengthening alternative and community-based care outcomes, which includes:

Intermediate outcomes:

  1. Improved and increased alternative and community care provisions to 32 direct beneficiaries.
  2. Clients are able to safely live and be reintegrated as resilient members of the community. 32 direct beneficiaries will live in family based care and 8 clients will be fully reintegrated into the community.
  3. Improved government, community and partner NGO’s knowledge about family based and alternative care a minimum of 128 indirect beneficiaries.

Final outcomes: Increase the number of children living in a safe and nurturing family environment through strengthened community based service provisions by July 2020.
