SCI’s Global Director of Child Protection Visit SCI’s Cambodia Program

Save the Children in Cambodia hosted Mr. Steve Miller, SCI’s Global Director of Child Protection, for two days, June 08-09, 2023. Mr. Miller learned about the country’s child protection program, including FCF network members’ and sub-grant partners’ work to support the national and sub-national government, the Social Service Work Force strengthening efforts, contributions to policy and legal framework development, and critical achievements in support of vulnerable children and their families, including children with disabilities.

Mr. Miller visited a parent group in Kampong Chhnang province, where he observed the social service workforce capacity building cascaded down to the grassroots level and the direct benefit to children and families. During the trip, Mr. Miller met with implementing partners and focal point persons of the Commune Council for Women and Children (CCWC), community volunteers, and parents of children with disabilities from eight communes. Organization to Improve Communication and Swallowing Therapy Services in Cambodia (OIC), one of FCF’s funded partners, conducted a coaching/mentoring session with CCWC members who are being trained to support their communities with identifying and assisting children – and their families – with swallowing and communication difficulties. Mr. Miller observed the session and expressed his respect for the OIC’s efforts and congratulated the organization on working at all administrative levels to strengthen the system.
